The 28th of August 2025 will mark the Tenth annual celebration of the prestigious Emirati Women’s Day. The occasion sheds light on and applauds the women who are roaring high in the sky and inspiring the generation. History & Significance of Emirati Women’s Day
Fondly known as the Mother of the Nation, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak commemorated Emirates Women’s Day for the first time on 15th August 2015. She then chose the date to be August 28 as it honours the founding of the UAE’s General Women’s Union which was launched on August 28, 1975.
She dons many hats as the Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood & Childhood and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. She is a strong supporter of adult literacy initiatives and the provision of free public education for girls. She was also honoured by the International Humanitarian Organisation for her endeavours toward women’s rights and equality.
Well, ever since, UAE Emirati Women's Day has been celebrated to highlight the contributions of Emirati women and applaud their dedication, strength and achievements that have helped to shape the nation.
Emirati Women’s Day 2025 Theme
Emirati Women's Day 2025, celebrated annually on August 28, is especially significant as it marks the 50th anniversary of the General Women's Union, established in 1975.
Under the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the event's theme, "Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years," highlights five decades of Emirati women's achievements and underscores community partnership as central to the UAE's development. The celebration aligns with 2025 being declared the Year of Community by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing national cohesion and social unity.
The theme reflects a commitment to women's empowerment through collaboration across all sectors of society, recognizing women as equal partners in national progress. The day honors women's vital roles in politics, economics, culture, and more, while reinforcing the UAE's vision of sustainable development driven by empowered women and strong community bonds.
