3 min read

Lucky bamboo is an attractive, popular and easy to care for indoor plant that grows in water and is considered absolutely great for beginners. According to the principles of Feng Shui, the lucky bamboo attracts a great amount of positive energy. It is believed that the placement of the lucky bamboo indoor plant inside houses and offices promotes good luck, prosperity and happiness. In fact, caring for the lucky bamboo is a relaxing hobby that helps release stress in an effective manner. With a little love and care, the lucky bamboo thrives well and is believed to bless the owner with oodles of luck.

Follow the instructions given below to ensure the lucky bamboo grows beautifully, is healthy and lasts longer:

  • One needs to be extremely cautious and always buy the sapling from a reputed nursery. When buying a sapling, one must be sure of the color. If the sapling is of a nice green color, then the plant will be a healthy one. If the color of the stem is feeble green or has a yellow tinge, then the same can mean trouble. The lucky bamboo plant care is easy but if the quality of the saplings is bad, then the whole work becomes a lot more difficult.
  • To grow lucky bamboo in water, one needs to fill the bottom of a container with pebbles and water that rises up to a couple of inches above the pebbles. One needs to make sure the roots of the plant are submerged in water. If one decides to keep the lucky bamboo in a vase, then one needs to ensure the water level is low. The roots of the lucky bamboo tend to grow wherever it comes in contact with water.
  • One should be sure of the kind of soil that they use for potting the lucky bamboo. Well-aerated potting soil with good drainage is a must to keep the soil moist but not wet.
  • The lucky bamboo thrives well in bright but indirect sunlight. But overexposing it to the sunlight can mean a great deal of trouble for the plant. The lucky bamboo also does well in artificial light. One should keep rotating the plant so that all sides receive equal light. If the leaves of the lucky bamboo are fading to a light green color, it often means the plant is not getting enough light. It is crucial to remove the yellow or dead leaves of the lucky bamboo to encourage its’ healthy growth.
  • A drop of liquid fertilizer added to the lucky bamboo once in a while can help promote growth. To yield the best results, one should use a light fertilizer that is specifically formulated for the lucky bamboo. Do not over-fertilize the plant.
  • The suitable temperature for lucky bamboo is 65 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. These plants do not survive in temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. One should avoid keeping the lucky bamboo near a heating or cooling vent like a furnace, AC, room heater, etc.
  • It is advised to use filtered, rainwater or bottled water for the lucky bamboo which should not contain chemicals, such as chlorine or fluoride. One should water the plant two or three times each week to keep it healthy. It is also advised to change the water every 8 to 10 days to keep the plant in a perfect condition.
  • One can avail lucky bamboo plant benefits by placing it in a suitable direction at homes or offices. By keeping it in the East direction all the family members will be bestowed with good health. Similarly, by placing the plant in the Southeast direction, it is known to attract wealth and prosperity in the life of the owner. The lucky bamboo could be a symbol of one’s artsy nature. There is simply no joy better than seeing the lucky bamboo grow into a full-scale marvel, which is definitely possible by following the caring tips mentioned above.
