How to Create a Small Garden on a Little Budget

A beautiful garden full of bright and vibrant flowers always makes your outdoor space look fabulous. Apart from indoor plants or adding happy shades, the green space helps you stay connected with nature.

People think that with a small garden, there are very few chances to experiment and explore in gardening that too if you are on a low budget. But with the right guidance and fantastic ideas, you can easily create your small dream garden space.

Listed below are some useful ideas that will help you plan out a small beautiful garden without breaking the bank.

  • Start by measuring the area of your garden. Draw a sketch to figure out where to plant plants, where can you keep the planters, how to create a pathway, and where the furniture would come. Buy the best quality materials to start the process and check if you can use what you have already.

  • Take help of your friends and family members to help you clear the garden, build the fence, plant the plants rather than recruiting someone to do it for you. Use natural self-binding gravels for pathways as they cost less than stones and bricks.

  • It is not always important to purchase new plants and gardens from the nursery. You can grow from seeds, take cuttings, or swap plants from neighbors to increase the stock in your garden at a very low cost. You can also hassle for a good deal at your local garden center.  Moreover, the climate in the Emirates is generally hot and scorching. Only certain plants can survive its climatic conditions. That being the case, be mindful when choosing indoor or outdoor plants in UAE. The perennials and shrubs grow back year after year and bulbs are quite inexpensive in the autumn. So, make your purchase wisely!

  • Using homemade compost is economic and the best treatment for soil. It is easy to make a compost bin at home. Choose a plastic bin with a lid and drill holes in it 1-2 inches apart. Fill the bin with normal compost and keep it outside. Don’t forget to aerate or shake it daily. If the compost is too wet, then you can add dry leaves, sawdust or dry waste to it.

  • You can use old plastic bottles as plant containers that will help you save the money you would have otherwise spent on buying fancy colorful planters. Cut off the top of each bottle and add gravel for drainage. Later, add soil to it and the plant of your choice and place them at the perfect spot in the garden.

  • With a limited budget, it is not possible to afford new and robust furniture for your garden. So, you can use old indoor furniture and repair it a bit to make it last longer. At least, until you can purchase waterproof chairs and tables for your garden.

  • A small garden means limited space for plants in Dubai. With the help of tiered planters and old wooden ladders, the available space can be maximized for plants and bulbs that you can easily move around the garden.

  • The diagonal paths and patios placed with horizontal lines give the illusion of a wider garden than it actually is. Plant warm color plants at the front of the garden and those with lighter shades towards the back. Because the darker colors give the illusion of depth while light colors appear to be closer. A full-length mirror is always a great idea to trick the eyes into thinking there is a way that proceeds to another garden.

  • Fairy lights are quick, simple, and cheap ways to add an instant glow to your small garden. They can be arranged on trees and branches or attach to furniture and fences.

  • The faux grass rug along with some potted plants is the cheapest yet best way to turn a desolate outdoor space into a warm and pleasant sitting area for the entire family. It will also make a decent spot for the evening and late night summer parties.
